Ahousat Warm Springs

A warm spring on Flores Island, distinct from the hotter Hot Springs Cove destination. Its historical water reading is warm rather than the temperature many travellers expect from a hot soaking pool.

25 °C is the whole story

Ahousat is a warm spring, and a genuinely warm one rather than a hot one — reported maximum temperature is about 25 °C. That is cooler than most swimming pools, and anyone arriving expecting a hot soak will be disappointed.

The water bubbles up into a concrete tank on the south side of Flores Island. It is clear and tasteless with only a faint sulphur note, and historically it was considered to have therapeutic value.

Two ways in, both involving a boat

The springs sit at the southern banks of Matilda Inlet and can only be reached by air or water from Tofino. Water taxis and floatplanes serve the village of Ahousat, with a twice-daily summer water taxi to Flores Island running about 30 minutes.

From the trailhead at Whitesand Cove, the warm springs lie at the end of a trail of roughly four kilometres at the northern end of Flores Island Provincial Park, overlooking Matilda Inlet. Boats can also reach the inlet directly, though the springs themselves are reportedly hard to locate from the water without local knowledge.

Ahousaht territory

The park and the spring lie within the traditional territory of the Ahousaht First Nation, and the village of Ahousat is the gateway for most visitors. Local operators run trips into the area.

The island is better known for the Wildside Trail along its outer coast, and most people who soak at Ahousat are doing so as part of a longer hike or kayak trip rather than travelling for the water alone — which, at 25 °C, is the sensible way to think about it.

Opening hours & season

No verified visitor timetable

Access depends on land-manager permission, closures and local conditions. No published timetable should be interpreted as 24-hour access.

All times are local to the spring. Checked 2026-10-01; this is not a live opening-status display. Closure notices override regular hours.

Our take

Worth distinguishing carefully from Hot Springs Cove when researching Clayoquot Sound. It is better approached as a coastal warm-spring feature than promised as a steaming bath.
