Privacy policy
Last updated 2026-10-02. This policy covers the website hotspringscanada.ca.
The short version
This site has no accounts, no logins, no newsletter and no contact form. We do not ask you for your name, your email address or any other personal detail, and there is nothing here for you to fill in. What we do have is ordinary web-server logging, Google Analytics for aggregate traffic figures, and Google AdSense advertising. Those three things are described in full below.
Who operates this site
hotspringscanada.ca is an independent research and travel-reference site operated from British Columbia, Canada. For any privacy question, correction or data request, write to info@hotspringscanada.ca and we will respond directly.
Information collected automatically
Server logs
Like effectively every website, our web server records a line for each request it serves. That line contains your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the HTTP status returned, the referring page if your browser sent one, and your browser’s user-agent string. We use these logs only to operate the site — diagnosing errors, measuring load and identifying abusive traffic. They are stored on our own server, are not sold or shared, and are rotated and deleted on a rolling basis.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides people read and how they arrive. It sets cookies in your browser and sends Google a record of your visit, which includes a randomly generated identifier, your approximate location derived from your IP address, the pages you viewed and basic device information. We see this only as aggregate reporting; we cannot identify an individual visitor from it. Google’s handling of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and by How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Data is retained in Google Analytics for the period configured in that service.
You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your visits entirely by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Google AdSense and advertising cookies
This site carries advertising served by Google AdSense, which is how the research is paid for. In serving those ads:
- Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, may show our ads on sites across the internet and use cookies to serve ads based on someone’s past visits to this website.
You can turn off personalised advertising at any time in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info, the NAI opt-out page, or youronlinechoices.com. Turning off personalisation does not remove advertising; it makes the advertising less specific to you.
Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, advertising and analytics cookies that are not strictly necessary require your consent before they are set. Where that applies, consent is requested through Google’s certified consent message before personalised ads or analytics cookies are used, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the privacy controls in that message or the vendor opt-out links above. You may also contact us at info@hotspringscanada.ca to ask what information relating to you we hold, to request its deletion, or to object to its processing.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade visitor information to anyone.
- We do not operate a mailing list and will not email you unless you write to us first.
- We do not run affiliate links or take payment from the hot-spring operators we write about.
- We do not use fingerprinting, session recording, heatmaps or cross-device tracking.
Cookies set by this site itself
None. Every cookie you may receive while reading these pages comes from Google Analytics or Google AdSense as described above, and can be blocked in your browser settings without affecting your ability to read any guide on this site.
Links to other sites
Our guides link heavily to BC Parks, Parks Canada and hot-spring operators, because those are the authoritative sources for hours and closures. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for their practices.
Children
This site is a general-audience travel reference. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights in Canada
We operate from Canada and handle personal information in line with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You may ask us what information we hold about you and request that it be corrected or deleted by writing to info@hotspringscanada.ca.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes to how we handle information will be described here rather than made silently.
